Volume two of the classic acid revival.

4 more fresh cuts inspired by a weekend driving around the Welsh countryside listening to Walker, Jammin’ Unit, Mike Ink and Bizz O.D.’s original acid output from Cologne back in the old days of 1992-1994, on a pilgrimage to an old party location on top of a hill in the middle of a forest called Brechfa. Buzzing from having visited (and taken photographs of) such a special party venue I came home and preceded to lash out track after track.

Featured in the second volume,

“Acid’s Coming Back”- A declaration of the start of a revival of the TRUE acid sound. Grinding acid at 125 BPM- something for the deeper dancefloor… 21st century Acid House.

“DPD Acid”- Multidrop Van driving Acid, Inspired by attempting to stay within impossible delivery windows in adverse weather conditions.

“Country And Western” – Taking us back to the old Spiral/Drop Bass days.

“An Open Letter To The Current Administration”- A two fingered salute to the Etonians who currently sit in the Palace Of Westminster, consolidating their Oligarchy at the expense of the average working person.
credits

released 01 July 2011

Thanks for the influence: Tadao Kikumoto, Roland Corps, Phuture, Trax Records, Mike Ink, Virus Soundsystem, BWPT Soundsystem, D.J.Ungle Fever, Communique Records, Society Suckers, Electric Kettle.

Originally inspired by a stay in the village of Sudeikiai, Lithuania, these 4 trax were just released on Serbian netlabel Teskoba Eskape a new sublabel of Teskoba. The first two tracks were actually written in the village of Sudeikiai, the later two inspired by the sound of the originals. As you can probably hear, there’s quite a bit of inspiration from both Maurizio and Wolfgang Voigt during his Studio One days. These are now available as a full quality download for free here:

info :
An E.P. Of two tales, the first beginning in Berlin during the winter of 2005, the
second from the wilds of the English countryside.

Mark Hawkins should need no introduction here. His music career which spans the past
ten years has brought numerous releases, and performances around the world, including
legendary clubs like Stammheim, Tresor and U60311 in Germany, Doornroosje in the
Netherlands, Le Batofar in Paris, France and the Tunnel Club in St Petersburg, Russia.

JE:5 is one of the UK’s most unsung talents. Resident Live-act at Uglyfunk from it’s
inception in 1997, he was always pushing the boundaries, quite often, writing his live
sets on the night of the performances.

Usine a Gaz and Pitagora Suicci were recorded after Mark and JE:5 had too many late nights
in the clubs of Mitte, restaurants of Boxhagnerplatz and bars of Ostkreuz. Sucking
influence from Hardwax where during that week many records by Audion, James T Cotton and
Hieroglyphic Being were purchased, this is the sound of Latte Machiatto, Bionade, Sternberger,
and Kiefen, finally captured on wax.
Uscine A Gaz is an Illinois inspired ode to Jack, merging mid 90s techno flavours with 21st
century tempo and groove.
The destruction of an allnighter at the Panzerwerk becomes apparent in
Pitagora Suicci. You can hear the dehydrated remains of two people who’s only way of communicating
with the outside world is through the machines.

Welt Machine and Il Tempo Gigante were recorded by Mark alone in the bedroom of a small market town
in suffolk early in 2009.
Weltmachine gives a nod and a wink to Maurizio, and reminisces of old times in the German capital.
Anthemic is probably the only word to describe “Il Tempo Gigante”, it’s where LFO, Mathew Jonson
and DJ Dag all meet in a Berlin Keller, with only a bottle of Jagermeister for company. I’m sure they
will still be working the floor at 10am monday morning!

info :
Snork17r brings you two extra remixes from Snork17´s originals:

Side A is again by the M_nus artist Hobo, this time a reinterpretation of 03. It was so hard for him to decide which track he wanted to remix that he remixed both the originals. That made it hard for us to decide which one we would like to choose, we loved both of them so we took both remixes, the 04 remix having been already released on Snork 17. With the remix of 03, Hobo comes over all Flat Eric with a cracking saw-tooth bass-line laid over some really tight beats, destined to set fire to dance-floors worldwide in 2009!

Side B kicks off with a remix of 04 by Spandex. Nottingham based Matt Southall previously gave the world the wonderful “What’s wrong with you” EP on Hand on the Plow and “Nameless dread” on Cristian Vogel’s Sleep Debt label, to much critical acclaim, and was even once offered a gig at the well known Berghain club in Berlin, about which he said “Hmm, yeah, I never got round to replying, I had too much work on at the time!”. Oblivious to fashion, trends and popularity (which is lovable and refreshing in this day and age) his remix has a touch of UK rave house trash mixed with a lot of funk.

B2 is a bonus track by ### – “06”, the sounds of solid bass-heavy grooves, with a definite dub- techno vibe, perfectly poised for after hour parties in the summer, even though we still have 5 or so months to go!

info :
### is a new project from long time UK techno stalwart Mark Hawkins, who has produced a variety of techno/electronic releases in the past on many different labels, including Djax Up Beats, Mosquito, Neue Heimat, Hoerspielmusik and Snork parent label Feinwerk. First featured on Feinwerk in 2007, ### is Mark’s return to his Chicago/Detroit influenced roots, mixed with a new 21st century flavour. Inspired by the desire for deep, hypnotic techno-house grooves as an antidote to both the mindless hard techno, mundane minimal pastiches, and “experimental” for the sake of it music, that is so typical of the current times. ### is stripped back to basics, in both style and execution, with the music being produced mainly on old school drum machines and synths, with track and release titles minimized.

Side A has two original compositions from ###, featuring bleeps, cuts and hidden bass between clouds of wobbly sounds, with a nod and wink to the original Detroit minimal legends, as well as current high flyers like M. Dear and J.T.Cotton.

Side B gives us a deep cut remix by M_nus records boy-wonder Hobo (Joel Boychuk, who is also one half of Tractile). Following on from the excellent “From A to B” that was released on M_nus in December 2008 (M_nus 69), he brings us a great remix of ###´s 04, showcasing his mind-blowing production skills whilst displaying definite old school influences. He was so excited by the original tracks though, that he also made a second remix of ###´s 03, which will be released soon on Snork17r, EP01 remixes.

review from Wire magazine, February 2009:

###
EP01
Snork Enterprises 2×12″

In which Mark Hawkins, normally associated with harder four-to-the-floor tracks, brings his skills to bear on more “mnml” fare in an extended love letter to techno’s most basic elements. “04″ is all about swooping high sine tones over the barest of kick and rimshot shuffles, while “03″ explores how much a saw-tooth buzz can be made to tickle the ear on a beat only slightly more present, and “06″ enacts a series of transformations on Reese piano chords. Remixes of “03″ and “04″ by Minus artist Hobo retain the key tones but crumple up their patterns, recalling the complex of sliding reflective surfaces in Cristian Vogel’s mid-90s output, while Hand On The Plow’s Spandex blows up “04″ into a scampering cubist re-imagining of the earliest rave tunes, a cutely vocoded approximation to the Golden Girls “Kinetic” riff surging through it.
